We live in 21st century and we saw in our daily life that poors are harassed by their race. These type of practises leading to the violence in the society and destroy the unity among the citizens. this practise is known as Racial Discrimination.
In this blog we learn about the following things:-
1. 4 Type of Racial Discrimination.
2.Racial Discrimination.
3.Poisoned environment.
4.code that protect the Human Right.
What is Racial Discrimination?
Racial Discrimination means that someone is bothering you, threatening you or treating you unfairly because of your race or colour.
It may also be because of things related to them, such as if you wear clothing related to your background , speak with an accent or practice a certain religion.
Racial Discrimination can happen when someone where you work , live or get a service:
1. Makes racial slurs or "jokes" .
2. Makes fun of you or insults you because of your racial identity .
3.Post cartoons or pictures , in a workplace, school or housing space, that degrades persons of a particular racial group.
4. Calls you names because of your race, colour, citizenship, place of origin, ancestry , ethnic background or creed.
Different types of race Discrimination
There are four main types of racial discrimination.
1. Direct Discrimination
This happens when someone treats you worse than another person in a similar situation because of your race. FOR EXAMPLE.
1. If a agency would not let a flat to you because of your race , this would be direct race discrimination.
2. Indirect Discrimination
This happens when an organisation has a particular policy or way of working that puts people of your racial group at a disadvantage . FOR EXAMPLE
1. A hairdresser refuses to employ stylists that cover their own hair, this would put any Muslim women or Sikh men who cover their hair at a disadvantage when applying for a position as a stylist.
3. Harassment
Harassment occurs when someone makes you feel humiliated , offended or degraded. FOR EXAMPLE
1. A young Brisrish Asian man at work keeps being called a racist name by colleagues. His colleagues say it is just banter, but the employee is insulted and offended by it.
4. Victimisation
This is when you are treated badly because you have made a complaint of race related discrimination under the Equality Act . It can also occur if you are supporting someone who has made a complaint of race related discrimination.FOR EXAMPLE
1. The young man in the example above wants to make a formal complaint about his treatment . His manager threatens to sack him unless he drops the complaint.
A Poisoned environment
Racial Discrimination can have a bad effect on, or " poison", the places where you live , work or receive services. Even if the harassment is not directed at you, it can still poison the environment for you and others. It can make living and working difficult .This can we take practically.
for example:- If the skin colour of a boy is black then other children's will harassed him for his colour. This creates unhealthy or non- friendly environment for the student and he fells that the whole environment is poisons for him and he fell uncomfortable...
The Ontario Human Right Code
The Ontario Human Right Code protects you from the racial discrimination. your right are protected where you work , live or get a services . These services include places such as restaurants , offices , malls and etc.The code also protects you from discrimination when you sign a contract or are a member of a union , trade or vocational association.
"Not all police are bad, Not all
BLACK people are criminals, not all WHITE people are RACIST".
